Welcome to underlook
MY STORY - PROJECTS
It all started back in 2015, when I visited a cat show. Driven by curiosity I decided to photograph the fluffy contestants from underneath using a glass plate.
The results were so intriguing that I was inspired to continue exploring how other animals, and even everyday objects, might look from this unusual perspective.
Since then, the project has grown and the Underlook collection now includes projects, with dogs, rabbits, exotic animals, bikes, horses, and even ONE cow—each captured from below.

MY BIGGEST PROJECT - UNDER-HORSE
Changing the scale of the Underlook photo studio opened up new opportunities. One of the most impactful photoshoot was photographing horses, which transformed the possibilities and direction of the entire Project.
For the first time my photos from underneath won prestigious awards and has peaked people's interest like I have never experienced in my entire life. With that, it made me realise that people, including me love to explore and discover new things, which is exactly what this project is all about.

CURIOUS HOW IT WAS MADE?

THEN I WONDERED: IS IT EVEN POSSIBLE TO PHOTOGRAPH SOMETHING SO BIZARRE FROM UNDERNEATH — LIKE A CAMPFIRE?

REVEAL THE PHOTO

It turns out nothing is impossible!
To capture the campfire from underneath, I used two layers of glass, just in case the first layer shattered from the heat. Luckily, the photoshoot went smoothly without any issues.
To prepare the wood, I made a campfire on the ground, waited until it was half burned out, and then took the campfire apart. I washed the wood in the river and dried it in the sun.
At night, I set up a glass-table photo studio under the open sky, using the real black night sky as the background in the photo.
I sprayed the wood with 99.8% isopropyl alcohol, a very flammable liquid, then arranged the wood in the double-glass setup to replicate the shape of the original campfire, and lit it!
The result was almost identical to the campfire on the ground — the wood was burning beautifully above the glass.

IN THE FUTURE —
I WOULD LIKE TO SEE THE WHOLE
WORLD FROM UNDERNEATH
Who is the person behind all this?
SO, ABOUT ME
I’m Andrius Burba, a photographer from Lithuania, the creator of UNDERLOOK — a project born from curiosity and inspired by perspective. I’m creatively fueled by the idea of turning what seems impossible into possible.
One of my biggest dreams is to build what could be the world’s first permanent photo studio — a full building dedicated entirely to shooting from underneath, featuring a large glass floor. It would open the door to ideas I’ve been obsessing over for the past seven years: cows, tigers, elephants, or even something as grand as an orchestra or an entire street, all seen from below.
The possibilities are endless — and I can’t wait to bring them to life!
